Drill Weekend :: 21 JAN – 22 JAN

Attention all hands!

The January POD is linked below. The SMS building is not available to us on Saturday, 21JAN. As such, I’ve made arrangements for us to carpool to Vertical Dreams climbing facility in Manchester. We will still muster at SMS at 0745 and leave by 0800. Cadets will need to bring a lunch and water. Climbing equipment and climbing shoes will be provided by the facility. There is no fee for cadets for this trip – the Squadron is covering the amount from the fundraising efforts of the cadets.

In addition to the POD, there are local orders and a waiver form for Vertical Dreams that must be filled out and brought on Saturday. Failure to bring the waiver form will result in the cadet not being allowed to participate in the climbing activities. There will be no printing available on Saturday morning. Remember, if a cadet is not going to attend drill, the expectation is that the absence form is filled out from the Squadron website and submitted. This is especially important this month as we’ll need to ensure enough seats for cadets in the carpool.

Please contact the CO if you have any questions.

Attention all hands,

Due to the impending inclement weather on Saturday morning, drill activities for 17DEC2016 are CANCELED.  Cadets should utilize the time on Saturday morning to work on correspondence coursework. Regular drill activities will be held on Sunday 18DEC2016.  Please review Sunday’s POD carefully, as there are some changes (most notably the holiday party) and drill will end early.

Veterans Day :: 11 NOV 16

Attention All Hands!

Veterans Day services will be held Friday, November 11th.  We will muster at 0830 behind Reynolds Hall on Concord Street (across from All Saints Church).  We will provide sideboy services for veterans entering the church before the service at 0900.  Following the service, we will meet and greet with the veterans for coffee and donuts.  At 1030, we will muster at the Lake Sunapee Bank parking lot on Main Street.  The parade steps off at 1045 and marches around the block to the Memorial Gates on Grove Street.

At 1230, there will be a flag pole dedication and flag raising at the new Scott Farrar Assisted Living facility on Elm Street.  We’ve been asked to provide a color guard and a presence at the dedication.  It should last more than 15 minutes, and is not mandatory (except for the color guard).  Scott Farrar is the new home to several members of the Cheney-Armstrong Post #5 which is our sponsoring organization.

UOD is dress blues for Sea Cadets, Salt and Peppers for League Cadets.  As always, regulation hair cuts, shaves for those cadets old enough to do so, makeup and jewelry requirements are a must for all in attendance.

Please email the CO if you have any questions.

DRILL WEEKEND :: 17 SEP – 18 SEP

Drill will be held this weekend, 17 SEP – 18 SEP.

The POD is available to download here: POD SEP 16. Please read carefully.

Special Notes:

  1. Parents and siblings are invited and encouraged to attend the promotion ceremony beginning at 1600 on Sunday. This is the rank all cadets should be looking to attain.  Refreshments will be served following the ceremony (there will be CAKE!)
  1. Cadets who attended any summer training should be prepared to spend a few minutes presenting about the pros and cons of the training in an organized fashion. Why did you attend this training?  What did you learn that will be helpful outside of Sea Cadets?  Would you recommend the training to others?

Upcoming Events

Attention all hands!

I hope everyone had a great summer, and enjoyed your training opportunities.  I received positive feedback on Monadnock Squadron cadets from other officers at training evolutions and from community members at smaller events we participated in.  Thank you for your commitment to the program.

There are a few things happening in the next couple of weeks before our regular drills begin again in September – please read the following carefully:

19 AUG/20 AUG/21 AUG (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)  1000 – 1300 each day

Jaffrey VFW Poppy Distribution – Market basket and Wal-Mart in Rindge

I need cadets for the following shifts – and officers or parents to assist in supervision.

  • 1000-1300 Friday  – 2 at Wal-Mart / 2 – 4 at Market Basket.  (CO will supervise).
  • 1000-1300 Saturday (same Wal-Mart and Market Basket set up)
  • 1000-1300 Sunday – Wal-Mart only

UOD – Dress Whites  (Sea Cadets) or Salt and Peppers (League Cadets)

The Jaffrey VFW provides an annual award to a Sea Cadet, and provides scholarship money for cadets to attend training.    If you’re not on vacation, consider volunteering for a shift toward your community service ribbon.

Monday September 5th  (Labor Day) 1330 Muster

Francestown Labor Day parade  – Color Guard only  – We graduated two long time color guard members in June, and the color guard captain is up for Chief.  This is a great opportunity for any cadet who would like to learn this position whether you have experience as a color guard member or not.  It is a parade only – there are no ceremonial aspects.  The parade isn’t very long as far as distance is concerned – there is some waiting at one end while the parade reverses direction.  It is a well-attended parade – the streets are packed.

10Sep and 11Sep – Dublin Gas Engine Meet

I don’t have details on time for this event yet – but for those that participated last year, it will change slightly this year.  The organization involved has changed the traffic pattern a bit, and reworked some components to encourage gas engine participants to stay all weekend.  This is another fundraiser for the Monadnock Squadron, which supports our training scholarships.

Please email the CO at co.monadnock@monadnocksquadron.org with your availability, questions, interest in color guard, etc.

Drill Weekend :: 18 JUN – 19 JUN

Attention all hands!

The POD for June is available for download below.  Please read it carefully, as there is important information regarding training this summer.  All cadets attending training need to have their parent fill out, and sign the Medical History form within 30 days of the training.  A fillable PDF is also available for download.  If a cadet needs uniforms for training, THIS is the weekend to request those uniform pieces.

Temple Parade 5 JUN 16 / Greenfield’s 225th 25 JUN 16

Attention All Hands!

The final Memorial Day services for the year will be held in Temple, NH on Sunday, June 5th.  Cadets will muster in the center of Temple at 1130.  The parade steps off at 1200 from just south of the town center at the former elementary school.  Following the parade, cadets will be fed lunch.  There is a band concert beginning at 1400.  In the past, the band has requested that the Monadnock Squadron cadets present the service flags during the playing of the Armed Forces Salute.  We need a minimum of six cadets, but can use as many as eight.  The Armed Forces Salute is played second in the concert line up.  Cadets will be dismissed immediately following the Armed Forces Salute.

Temple is a rain or shine event – and we’ve been rained on before.  We will have a supply of black rain coats.

On the horizon:

June 25th the Monadnock Squadron will be participating in a daylong event for Greenfield NH’s 225th celebration.  We will have a food tent, recruiting materials, and cadets will be helping keep the park clean.  Cadets will also participate as a marching unit in the parade.  This is a fundraiser for the Monadnock Squadron, the proceeds of which directly benefit cadets who need financial assistance with training fees.  We will also need help from parents to man the food tent, especially during the parade.  While not a regularly scheduled drill, cadets will earn hours toward their community service ribbons for participating.  Muster will be no later than 0800 at Oak Park in Greenfield.  The parade is at 1000.  The day’s festivities will end at 1500.  Cadets will be released following clean up.

Peterborough, NH – Muster at 0800 at the Community Center on Elm Street in Peterborough. Parade steps off at 0830. Please drink plenty of fluids (water) and have breakfast. Hot dogs and drinks are provided, additionally the Squadron will have fixings for sandwiches and more water. If cadets have special dietary needs, they should bring an individual lunch.

From Dublin, we will carpool to Hancock Elementary School. Parade steps off at 2:00 PM. This parade is the shortest both in ceremony and distance. Cadets will be dismissed from the end of the parade in Hancock, at approximately 2:45 PM.
